Change in ad file storage
January 21st, 2008Ever since we started development on Adregate we knew we’d have to store ad files in a better way than just on a regular server.
The bandwidth/storage fees would just rack up too quickly and we most likely wouldn’t be able to get the delivery speeds we wanted without shelling out even more cash.
For the majority of the alpha/beta periods over the past 6 months or so we were using CacheFly to handle this. The prices weren’t fantastic but it was an incredibly quick and easy setup that had the features we were looking for.
As we’ve been moving closer to launching, the prospect that CacheFly could become really expensive, really quickly came up. Ultimately as the app and ad delivery scaled upward, prices would just increase exponentially with CacheFly.
So while there were some appealing features of CacheFly, we ultimately made the move to Amazon’s S3 service today.
Amazon’s S3 setup and pricing structure is made to scale with something exactly like Adregate and by making this move we ultimately will save thousands (if not 10’s of thousands) of dollars that we’ll ultimately be able to pass on to you.
Beta testers, your files have already been moved to the storage/delivery setup (everything moved flawlessly). One immediate benefit to you is that you no longer have to wait for your ad files to propagate…they’re available the second you submit them.
We’re getting closer!
Adregate.com Server Move
January 8th, 2008At around 11PM MST on Wednesday, January 9 we’ll be moving Adregate to a speedy new server as we move closer to our public launch.
There is a possibility of some downtime but we don’t anticipate more than 5-10 minutes.
We’ll be disabling login to the control panel shortly before we make the move to help reduce the risk of data loss.
Please let me know if you have any questions!
UPDATE: The server move has been completed. Things went surprisingly smooth with only ~2 minutes of downtime. Things should be running faster for all beta testers now and the app as a whole will be coming together fairly quickly over the next couple of weeks as we get closer to launching.
Alpha Progress
October 23rd, 2007Progress with the private alpha is going really well. Feedback so far has been positive and we’ve been able to squash a lot of bugs.
Our plan right now is to start sending out invitations to a private beta every few days starting next week. If you dropped in your email on the front page of Adregate you could very well receive an invitation. Or just post a comment here and I’ll be sure to send one out to you.
Here are a few screenshots to wet your whistle:
Private Alpha
October 9th, 2007We’re quickly approaching launch and would love to have a few folks give things a run and help iron out the bugs!
